VIDEO BATTLE, Curated by Adelina Luft

The selections for the video night screening brings to the fore a particular type of video production in Indonesia and which has been continued as a practice for almost two decades now. The videos explore artistic elements of video making while enhancing an accentuated sense of humor and parody mostly characteristic of artists in their incipient phase of their careers. This subtle irony and humoristic approach is what connects the selected videos which keep a critical standpoint. Besides their contents, the video also present how the different familiar techniques of home-made videos, video art and experimental video-making become blurred in the practice of the selected video works.

Video Battle has been taken over by young students who now are on the verge to finish their bachelor studies at the Art Institute in Yogyakarta, taking the inherited vast materials of videos from the first generation era of VIDEO BATTLE and adding up new video works in a compilation they present to the public periodically.
